Is Singapore a Better Place to Live In?

Question by Dianne: is Singapore a better place to live in?
I’m an upcoming Junior, so i really want to be ready on the choices i will make and one of it is living in Singapore. Well, i live in Philippines, and some of my relatives live in Singapore, so we mostly go there for vacation and because of it, it has been my 2nd country. Singapore is the only place where i feel comfortable and safe when i’m alone on the street. And i love how they don’t care of what i do, cause they don’t look that much and the malls there are just so gorgeous! I love shopping there, cause there are lots of branded stores that aren’t here in the Philippines. And my aunt has been so successful there and is a manager in a bank, and his husband is the VP of a bank, so they told me if i get that kind of job, i should take programming or computer sci and i could easily be accepted there.
Ok so going back to Singapore.. It is really a clean country, and the foods are cheap but really delicious.
The question is; is it good to live there, and work there and have my family there?

I have been to Singapore many times. As a rule it is clean. If you go to Chinatown just a little North of Tanjong Pagar, then the area is not so clean. Panhandling, littering, and urinating in the street are not tolerated in Singapore. However deep in Chinatown (next to the Chinese Temple on South Bridge Rd) you may see all of those things happening. If you shop there, just go to the shops, bars, and resturants on Sago St, and Banda St then you will not be exposed to trashy people.

Possession of drugs in Singapore will get you a death sentence. Driving around in a “boom-car” disturbing people for blocks with loud bass will land you in jail. Here in Arizona “boom-cars” and drugs have reached epidemic proportions! When I heard about the strict law enforcement in Singapore, I wanted to move there immediately.

I just landed a job in Tanjong Pagar Singapore as a Linux developer. I am moving to Tanjong Pagar in about two weeks. It is very expensive to live there, so keep that in mind. I will be making only about 97,000 Singapore a year. That is just above middle class, and certainly not enough to own a car or shop at brand name stores.
